Meet our Artistic Director
Seth Wilson has danced and taught with Columbus Dance Theatre for the last 18 years and has previously served as the company’s Co-Managing Director and Communications Director. He was appointed Artistic Director in October of 2018 and has been essential to the growth of the organization. He has had the pleasure of working with the Company on many choreographic ventures, including a work that won the Greater Columbus Arts Councils Choreography Fellowship in 2012. He teaches in the Intensive Training Program of CDT and leads the Boy’s Scholarship Program in an effort to help remove the stigma of men in dance and ballet.
A native of Queens, New York, Seth grew up attending LaGuardia High School of the Arts, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, Bernice Johnson, and Ballet Hispanico for his early training. After high school, Seth attended SUNY Purchase where he performed in Dusseldorf, Germany with Cloud Gate Theater of Taiwan and with Stanton Welch in a collaboration with ABT’s Studio Company. He then joined Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Ensemble and performed works nationally by Geoffrey Holder, Arthur Mitchell, Laveen Naidu and others. He has danced with New York Theatre Ballet performing works by Artistic Director, Diana Byer and Collage Dance Collective in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been a guest performer at the Flint Institute of Music, Fred Benjamin Dance Company, Creative Outlet and has performed at Lincoln Center Outdoors, at the Bermuda Arts Festival and Jacob’s Pillow.
As a teacher, Seth taught ballet in the P.A.L League in New York City, to youth in Queens and Brooklyn. He has taught at IT’s Dance in New York City and as a Guest Teacher for schools in and around Columbus and is currently an adjunct faculty member at Otterbein University where he teaches ballet and modern.
