Columbus Dance Theatre’s Young Children's Division (YCD) introduces children as young as age 2 to the joy of movement and the fundamentals of dance in a warm, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment.

Our carefully crafted curriculum, developed by our professional faculty, goes beyond just dance steps. Children build confidence, coordination, musicality, and social skills—all while having fun. From their first plié to their first performance, students are guided through a progressive program that grows with them, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of dance. Our YCD program nurtures each child’s creativity, musicality, and physical development through structured classes that are both playful and purposeful.

As students progress, they are gently introduced to essential dance concepts, including basic ballet vocabulary, classroom etiquette, musicality, spatial awareness, positions, and movement patterns, all in an environment that encourages expression, cooperation, and

confidence. Classes evolve to include barre work, center exercises, and choreography—all presented in a fun and engaging way that meets young dancers where they are.  Small class sizes ensure personal attention, and our nurturing approach means every dancer feels valued and supported from day one. We proudly offer performance opportunities throughout the year, allowing students to shine on stage and share their progress with friends and family all while gaining confidence and stage experience in a supportive atmosphere.
